We've been getting so many requests for easy vegan tofu recipes! It's understandable, I mean, when you think of a vegan diet what comes to mind for a lot of people is definitely tofu as a staple. But, what do you actually... do with tofu? I didn't know for awhile and neither did my mother. It was just this ambiguous cream colored block of... blobby stuff.
Luckily, those days are over for us. We've amassed a nice list of easy vegan tofu recipes that we like to use! Simple ways to prepare it for easy use as well as some really delicious recipes!
I really liked the sound of this recipe because it's really easy. But it's also... well, they are slabs, lets be honest here. Tofu slabs. I can't help but think back to when I was trying to help my mother wrap her mind around what a meal would look like if we weren't going to eat a slice of meat and I think a recipe like this might have actually been helpful at the time because (to me) it has a slightly more traditional "meat and veggies" feel to it. Oh My Veggies did good with this one, it's a super easy vegan tofu recipe with delicious herbs and I can think of a lot of stuff to do with it! Having it in a little pita sandwich like they show on their blog, or even on top of some noodles with some marinara or spaghetti sauce would be delicious too.
I liked this particular recipe because it's pretty simple and versatile, including two ways to serve it! It also could easily count as both an entree and appetizer depending on what you're needing or wanting. You can easily leave this as a simple salt and pepper tofu recipe, or like they suggest on Veggie Belly, throw in sauteed veggies and BOOM. Insta-yum.
Something tofu can do for us when we're going back to some of our traditional recipe roots is give us the textures we're looking for. Because, when we're making mom's spaghetti (or bolognese in this case) a huge part of the "comfort food" aspect of it... well, it's the texture as much as the flavor. If something doesn't feel right, it just isn't right! The blog It Doesn't Taste Like Chicken seriously nailed this recipe though, providing a really interesting way to prep tofu to give it the right texture we're looking for.
I thought this would be nice to include in our list of easy vegan tofu recipes because... Well, it's an easy way to get delicious crispy tofu! Which, is perfect for us because, personally, unless I'm using tofu as a substitute FOR eggs, I don't want that eggy texture it can have sometimes. This crispy tofu recipe from Cookie + Kate sounds delicious and I can see how you could either eat it on its own as is or toss it into something else! Onto a salad, lettuce or otherwise! Throw it into a sauce with some noodles. Really, the possibilities are just about endless.
Now this is another easy vegan tofu recipe that I thought all the moms out there might like. It seems like something I would have loved as a kid, so, I instantly thought about all the new vegan moms out there trying to find yummy stuff for their little ones! It's a simple enough recipe, so you aren't going to have to spend FOREVER in the kitchen and you could even easily get the kids involved! It's an easy and safe way to include them seeing as there's no raw meat involved (blech) and you can do it the way they do over at Happy Healing, just crumble the tofu after draining and pressing it so you don't even have to use any sharp knives!
Now, this is the perfect recipe to add into a stir fry. Or you could just eat it straight up as it's own side or part of a meal. Really, I can imagine happily popping this tasty little tofu cubes into my mouth for munching at anytime. Domestic Superhero seriously knows how to cook their tofu, because this just seems like the perfect all purpose tofu recipe! Include it as an appetizer or toss into another meal to add some chewy tofu bites!
Bonus Video! The Vegan Zombie: How To Cook Tofu Right
This is actually the first tofu recipe we ever really tried! Now, we did slightly different spices and such, but we used The Vegan Zombie's method and it turned out so damn good. I couldn't believe it! Now, in this video he talks about putting it on salads and eating it strips of it, which is delicious and I do recommend as well, but we put it on a sandwich just like I would have put lunch meat onto a sandwich before I went vegan. Oh boy is THAT delicious.
